ART  &  cRAFT

Karen Lee Miller-Newman, a Newport native, is an artist of several
genres.  Her artistic ventures began while she attended Williamsport
Community College.
Studying horticulture sparked her interest in the timeless craft of Victorian Pressed Floral Design.  Its remarkable beauty combined with her love of educating children inspired Karen to teach classes in this creative art.  She has continued to teach classes for 25 years.

In true artistic fashion, Karen's creativity has led her to explore other crafts.  Just as Rumpelstiltskin "spun straw into gold before dawn", Karen recycles unwanted strips of plastic into amazing crocheted creations.

She learned her skills from her elderly neighbor and dear friend "Miss Pinky".
Using plastic instead of cloth inspired Karen to share this concept of recycling.  She founded June Bug City Crafts in the early 80s and demonstrated at annual Earth Day Festivals in the Harrisburg area, teaching children of all ages how to save space in our landfills. Karen creates her works of art under the name Rumpelstiltskin Unltd ...  Again, she shares her art and over 20 years of experience with today's youth.

When she is not teaching children, Karen prefers to join them in song.  Whether performing with her husband, Warren Newman, or by herself as the musically talented KLMN-tine, Karen enlivens the crowd by playing our favorite folk tunes on her guitar.

Currently, Karen is an after-school art teacher at the Danzante School for the Arts, where she continues to spread her enthusiasm for art, creativity, and life.
